Zombies
Zombies where regular people just like you that used to inhabit the islands before the infection broke out. They used to have jobs, friends, families just like everyone else. However when the infection broke out they where very unlucky because they contracted the virus. They fell very ill and suffered greatly before their death. The virus first exhibited the same symptoms as the common cold, followed by a strong burning sensation in the eyes in the early stages, then high fevers, behavior resembling madness and unordinary, almost super human strength a few days after contraction. In the final stages the victims would usually be close to complete madness and die from internal bleeding as a result of very fast muscle growth which often caused the skin to rip or as a result of the high fevers and exhaustion. After their death the virus remained dormant in the body feeding on the brain tissue. On the third day the virus reactivated the heart, hijacked the nervous system of the corpse turning it in to a zombie which now roams the land and looks for anything to rip apart, including you!
Be careful, avoid coming in to contact with zombies and move quietly around them, if they see you they will try to kill you. Avoid getting hit by them too as they can infect you with the virus if they scratch you and you will also become a zombie soon unless you manage to craft the antidote.
Remember to check the zombies bodies when you kill them, sometimes they carry useful loot.
