Fuel was a major part of life before the infection and still is after the infection. You will need fuel to transport yourself around the islands in vehicles and you will need lots of it to operate airplanes and helicopters! But fuel is in short supply so be economic and get ready to fight for it sometimes.

Fuel Tanks

Poshol fuel tank train cars also contain fuel

You can find fuel lying around in various buildings in small jerry cans (20 liter capacity) or large jerry cans (80 liter capacity). Sometimes you may find jerry cans that are empty and you will need to fill them up. You can fill up empty jerry cans at fuel tanks or at fuel tanker train cars.

Approach the tank with an empty jerry can in your inventory and select 'Fill Jerrycan' from the action menu.

Crafting Large Jerrycans

There are also large jerry cans with a capacity of 80 liters (4 times more) than the ordinary jerry can, which makes carrying fuel around easier. You can find them lying around in buildings or you can craft your own. To craft a large jerry can you will need:

  • 4x jerry can (either all 4 full or empty)
  • 1x Old rope

Open your inventory and right-click any of the jerry cans which you want to use to craft a large one, then select 'Big Jerry Can (Empty)' or just 'Big Jerry Can' depending on if you are using full or empty jerry cans. Your player will craft a large jerry can, the 4 normal ones and the old rope will disappear from your inventory and a big jerry can will be put in their place.

Note
You will not lose the fuel in your jerry cans if you are crafting a large jerry can from 4 full normal jerry cans.

Draining Fuel

You can also drain fuel from any vehicles you find if they have any. To drain fuel from vehicles, simply approach them and select 'Drain Fuel From ...' from the action menu.

After draining the fuel a message will appear on your screen telling you how much fuel has been drained from the vehicle. Keep in mind that if a vehicle has more fuel than your jerrycan can hold, the rest of the fuel will remain in the vehicle and you can still drain the rest of the fuel from it in to other jerry cans.

Filling Up Vehicles

Transporting Fuel

Jerry cans are practical for filling up motorcycles and cars, but helicopters and airplanes need hundreds of liters in their fuel tanks to get somehwere and although you can fill themup with ordinary jerry cans the most practical way to refuel them is using a fuel truck - The Rodina.

You can fill the Rodina fuel truck up directly from fuel tanks and then use it to directly refuel other vehicles, such as aircraft which will save you a lot of time and hassle.

To refuel vehicles with the Rodina you will first need to find one and repair it to a drivable state.
