==== Stage 2 (Lock Stage) ==== | ==== Stage 2 (Lock Stage) ==== | ||
− | + | Every house has a '''lock stage'''. The lock stage is the stage at which you will be asked to enter a pin code which will allow you to lock/unlock the house. It is important that you '''do not''' leave any items in a house for a long time before you reach the lock stage as anyone will be able to steal them. When you reach the lock stage and lock the house the inventory will also be locked and nobody will be able to access it until the house is unlocked. | |
− | + | In the bandit level 1 house the lock stage happens to be the second and final stage of the house, however on some houses the lock stage may be on stage 3 for example. | |

A huge part of Origins Mod is base building which allows you to build houses, fences, gates and even a stronghold creating whole bases and villages for you, your friends or even your whole clan. Lets have a look at how to build basic structures such as fences first and then at more complex structures such as houses and the stronghold.

Fences
Fences are the key element of any base, they allow you to define your territory and keep zombies and others players out!
Wooden Fence
The wooden fence is a very simple and easy to build fence, you will need to have a hatchet
in your tool belt and 2 short planks
in your inventory to build it. Although easy to build it is easy to easy to destroy with a few gun shots and won't do much for you apart form keeping zombies out.
Right-click on the hatchet and select 'Wooden Fence'.
You will see either a red or green silhouette of the fence. The green silhouette means that you can build the fence on that spot, the red one means you can't. You can walk and look around to choose exactly where you want to build the fence. When you are ready to build press the space bar
on your keyboard. To abort building just run away until the silhouette disappears.
After building a fence you can build another one beside it and so on...
Reinforced Wooden Fence
The reinforced wooden fence is also a very simple and easy to build fence but provides more protection against light bullets thanks to the reinforced metal sheets on it. You will need to have a hatchet
and adjustable wrench
in your tool belt, 2 short planks
and 1 reinforcement material
in your inventory to build it.
Right-click the hatchet icon and select 'Reinf. Wooden Fence' to build it.
Dirt Fence
The dirt fence is more complex to build than the wooden fences, however it provides a higher amount protection, it cannot be shot through or destroyed or run over by vehicles. It also features a hole that you can use to shoot out of.
To build a dirt fence you will need to have an adjustable wrench
in your tool belt and 2 reinforcement materials
in your inventory.
Then you need to find an excavator which will be used to construct the fence and other fences and gates that we will talk about after.
Place the excavator approximately in front of the place you want to build the fence and switch to the operators seat and then select 'Build dirt fence' from the action menu.
You will once again see a red/green silhouette of the fence, red meaning that you cannot build on that spot and green meaning that you can. Rotate the excavator and drive it to where you want the fence to be, just don't drive too far or the action will be cancelled. You can cancel the building action by selecting 'Cancel' form the action menu.
Once you have chosen a spot, press the space bar
to build the fence.
Dirt Fence (Upgraded)
After building a dirt fence you can upgrade it by approaching it and selecting 'Upgrade' from the action menu.
To upgrade it you will need to have the following tools in your tool belt:
You will also need to have the following items in your inventory:
- 1x Screws Error creating thumbnail: File missing
- 2x Bags Of Cement Error creating thumbnail: File missing
- 3x Long Planks (Click here to learn how to craft them) Error creating thumbnail: File missing
- 2x Reinforcement materials Error creating thumbnail: File missing
You can also build the upgraded dirt fence straight away using the excavator by selecting 'Build Dirt Fence (Upgraded)' from the action menu when you are in the operator's seat. For that you will need the following tools in your tool belt:

Gate
Now that you have learnt how to build fences to keep zombies and other players out you should learn how to build gates, because eventually you will have to leave your base to get supplies and will need a way to let yourself out.
To build a gate you will also need to use the excavator and you will need to have the following tools in your tool belt:
- Adjustable Wrench Error creating thumbnail: File missing
- Screwdriver Set Error creating thumbnail: File missing
You will also need to have the following tools in your inventory:

Then select 'Build Gate' from the action menu when you are sitting in the excavator in the operator's seat to build the gate.
You will be prompted to enter a 4 - 6 number password which you will later use to open the gate. Do not share this password with anyone or they will be able to unlock your safe and take your loot!
Press the ENT key on the in game number pad to confirm the password.
Gate (Upgraded)
Once you have built a gate you can upgrade it to make it taller and give you more protection. Approach it and select 'Upgrade' from the action menu.
To upgrade it you will need the following tools in your tool belt:

Demolishing Fences
To demolish fences you will need to use the excavator. Drive up to the fence and select 'Demolish' from the action menu. A red ball will appear under the shovel. You need to position the red ball on to the fence you want to demolish and then press the space bar
to demolish the fence.
Houses
Now that you have learnt how to build fences and secure the perimeter of your base, let's have a look at building houses.
To build a house you must either be a bandit
or a hero
. Survivors
cannot build houses. Click here to read about factions and the humanity system. Your faction hero/bandit will determine how your house looks, although if you build a house as a hero you will not need to remain a hero to access it, you will be able to access it even when you change factions.
There are 4 levels of houses that you can build anywhere on the islands. Each level requires more materials and is harder to build than the previous level but gives you more storage space and even a garage in return. Keep in mind that you may only have one house of each level and per faction. So if you have a level 1 hero house you cannot build a bandit level 1 house.
Bandit Houses
Let's assume you are a bandit and want to build a house. You will need to start from a level 1 house (you cannot build a level 4 house straight away).
Keep in mind that if you build a bandit level 1 house you will not be able to build a hero level 1 house and so forth...
Building Houses (Bandit Level 1)
To begin you will need to find the blueprint (L1 Bandit) for a bandit level 1 house.
The level 1 house capacity is:
Magazines/Loot | Weapons | Backpacks |
---|---|---|
500 | 15 | 5 |
House construction is also divided in to stages and you will not need an excavator as you did with fences. First you need to build a foundation. Let's have a look at how to do that.
Foundation (Stage 1)
To build a foundation you will need to find and assemble a cement mixer
in approximately the place where you want to build your house. You will use the cement mixer to build the foundation. Find a cement mixer
, right-click on it and select 'Build Cem. Mixer' to build it. You will also need an adjustable wrench
in your tool belt.
Next you need to put the correct amount of materials in to the cement mixer that are required for building the foundation. For the bandit level 1 house the materials required for the foundation are as follows:
Icon | Name | Quantity |
---|---|---|
Wood Pile | 25 | |
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
|
Rocks | 15
|
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
|
Reinforcement Materials | 2 |
Error creating thumbnail: File missing
|
Bag of Cement | 2 |
As you can see on the image bellow, all the materials have been placed in to the cement mixer:
Once you have put the materials in the cement mixer, right-click on the blueprint icon and select 'Build Foundation'. You will also need a hatchet
and entrenchment tool
in your tool belt.
A green or red silhouette of the foundation will appear. The red silhouette means that you cannot build there and the green silhouette means that you can build there. To place the foundation press the space bar
on your keyboard.
Note |
---|
You cannot build houses closer than 150 meters to towns and villages. |
After building the foundation you will need to wait for the server to restart before continuing construction! Do not place anything in to the foundation before the server restarts or it will get lost! You will not need to wait for a restart when building other stages though.
Stage 2 (Lock Stage)
Every house has a lock stage. The lock stage is the stage at which you will be asked to enter a pin code which will allow you to lock/unlock the house. It is important that you do not leave any items in a house for a long time before you reach the lock stage as anyone will be able to steal them. When you reach the lock stage and lock the house the inventory will also be locked and nobody will be able to access it until the house is unlocked.
In the bandit level 1 house the lock stage happens to be the second and final stage of the house, however on some houses the lock stage may be on stage 3 for example.
The materials needed for stage 2 of the house are as follows:
After the server has restarted and you are ready to build the second stage, quickly put the items in to the inventory of the foundation.
Then select 'Build Stage 2' from the action menu. (It may be tricky to get the action to appear in your action menu. Move away from the foundation and aim at it from all sides until it appears.)
Note that you will also need a hatchet
and entrenchment tool
in your tool belt to build each stage of a house.
You will then be prompted to enter a 4 - 6 number password which you will later use to unlock/lock the house. Do not share this password with anyone or they will be able to unlock your house and take your loot! Also remember to always lock your house using the password when you are done using it so nobody gains access to your inventory, closing the front doors does not lock the house! Make sure to select 'Lock House, Close Doors' from the action menu!
Press the ENT key on the in game number pad to confirm the password.
The house is now completed, you can lock/unlock it by approaching it and selecting 'Lock House, Close Doors' / 'Unlock House, Open Doors' form the action menu. You will be prompted to enter your password every time you lock/unlock the house.
Demolishing A Foundation
If you accidentally build the foundation in the wrong place you can still destroy it at this point, just approach it and select 'Demolish Foundation' from the action menu. Keep in mind that you will loose all the materials you used to build it and any loot you have not taken out of it!
It may be tricky to get the action to appear in your action menu. Move away from the foundation and aim at it from all sides until it appears.
Bandit Level 2
The level 2 house is a special building as it spawns a few reinforced woods
and lime stones
that you can use to craft cinderblocks
which you will need for building other structures. The materials will be placed in to the inventory of the house after every restart providing there is room, so if you need these materials leave a few empty slots in the inventory of the house for them!
The level 2 house capacity is:

Deleting Houses
Once you have built a house it is permanent, if you want to delete the house you have to ask the server admin.
Also note that if your house is inactive for 14 days since the day you built it, it will automatically be deleted. To prevent your house/houses form being deleted you need to unlock and lock it/or each of them (by entering the pin code) at least once every 14 days. The 14 day countdown will commence again since the day you last locked and unlocked it.
Garages
Watch Tower
Stronghold
Electro Nests
Electro Nests are another category of buildings that you can build in Origins Mod. They are just like houses but can only be built on electric pylons. Electro Nests have 3 levels, however unlike with houses where you can build each house level in a different location, all electro nests will be built on one electric pylon and connected together with ladders, creating a big structure.
Their advantages compared to houses are that you can land and hide a helicopter on top of the nest which will make it hard to destroy and you will be above ground so it will be very hard for players to attack you from the ground. However the nests have no garages like the houses so you will need to build separate garages for vehicles on the ground.
Note |
---|
In order to build electro nests you will have to delete all your level 1, 2 and 3 houses. This does not apply to garages, fences etc... |
To begin you will first need be either a hero
or bandit
just like with houses and to find an electrical pylon in a place where you want to begin building the nest.
Bandit/Hero Electro Nest Level 1
Stage 1
To begin building stage 1 of the level 1 electro nest you will need to build a crane
under your chosen electric pylon. To do that you will first need to find a disassembled crane. To assemble it you will need to have an old hammer , old pliers and an adjustable wrench
in your tool belt, and short planks
in your inventory.
Right-click the crane and select 'Build Crane (Dis.)'.
You will use the crane like you did the cement mixer, put the necessary materials in to its inventory and use it to build the first stage.
The materials you will need for stage 1 are listed bellow. Just as with houses you will also need the 'E. Bandit L1' / 'E. Hero L1' blueprint in your inventory to build the nest depending on if you are a bandit or hero.
You will also need the following tools in your tool belt to build each stage:

With all the necessary items in the inventory of the crane you are ready to build the first stage!
Right-click the blueprint icon and select 'Build Garage Extension'.
After building the foundation you will need to wait for the server to restart before continuing construction! Do not place anything in to the foundation before the server restarts or it will get lost! You will not need to wait for a restart when building other stages though.
Stage 2 (Lock Stage)
Every house and every electro nest has a lock stage. The lock stage is the stage at which you will be asked to enter a pin code which will allow you to lock/unlock the house. It is important that you do not leave any items in a nest for a long time before you reach the lock stage as anyone will be able to steal them. When you reach the lock stage and lock the house the inventory will also be locked and nobody will be able to access it until the house is unlocked.
In the level 1 nest the lock stage happens to be the second and final stage of the nest however on some levels the lock stage may be on stage 3 for example.
The materials needed for stage 2 of the nest are as follows:
After the server has restarted and you are ready to build the second stage, quickly put the items in to the inventory of the first stage.
